Around Habana Vieja
she would go
In a carriage that
would take it real slow
With a horse that was
skinny
But he sure could
Whinny
And his name, but of
course - “Señor Eduardo”
Ok Earl, he’s struggling, especially if he has to bring
Mr Ed into it. But seriously… he swears
that's the horse’s name.
As our rhyme alludes, Tia and the girls have decreed that
the rest of the day be dedicated to a carriage ride around Habana Vieja. Doug
and Da Boyz elected to just chill at Casa Maria La China so Chucky loads the
girls into the car and heads for Paseo Prado to find a horse and buggy for
“just one more turn around the old town”.
After being instructed to “Go Slow” down the Prado so they
could take pictures, Chucky finds a parking spot in front of Hotel Telegrafo,
right across from Parque Central and of course is immediately approached by a
parking Dude who gave him a card to slip into the door window authorizing them
to park in front of the hotel [what a Racket] but not a bad spot for the $1CUC
it would cost later.
After dodging other cars trying to squeeze into non- existent spaces and navigating the relentless traffic,
Tia on cane and the girls in tow make it across the busy Prado to the safety of
Parque Central. Now it was time to select a suitable Carriage for this little
romp.
Veteran NOWAT followers may recall that back in 2001 when
this NOWAT stuff began, prior to a carriage romp around Rome , Cuban Lady had to bond with the right
horse before she would get in the buggy.
This time was no different; however, we were saved that exercise in
Scientific Equestrian Selection since {Hallelujah} there was only one buggy
left across from the Parque Central Hotel
The very affable “Agustin” was happy to introduce the Cuban Lady to - “Señor
Eduardo” {Seriously… the damn horse was named Mr. Ed! – This dude had quite a
sense of humor as we soon learned} Agustin then graciously assisted the
ladies into the cushy antique conveyance, gladly took pictures with everyone’s
camera or phone and after installing Chucky on the rock- hard
shotgun seat beside him proceeded to engage the horse with {cluck- cluck- “Cabaaallo!”}
and they were off.
For those that really don’t care where they went, and just
want to skip to the captioned pictures of the Slide show missing most of
the trip back in time with comments in between a periodic {cluck- cluck- “Cabaaallo!”}
jump past the route below and hope he has all the pics up on Picasa Web and in order by the time you read this..
Start in front of Parque Central Hotel on Neptuno heading east away from the
Prado, turn right on Zulueta, left on Obrapia,
left on Avanedia Belgica, past La Floridita Bar {LA Cuna del Daiquiri},
Past the "Original" Edificio Bacardi [not the one on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami], Past the Original Sloppy Joe's,
{cluck-cluck “Cabaaallo!”}
past Museo De Revolucion,
right on Cuba Tacon, Right on Cuba, left on Chacon around the Graybar Hotel / Police Station {Agustin also had to mention that this was a free hotel - must be the local joke},
right on Malecon also Avenida Washington, Calle 1ra, etc, allllll the way down past San Francisco, past the Cruise Terminal, past El Pulgero, and then right on Monserrate, {cluck- cluck- “Cabaaallo!”} along a section of the original city wall, past Estacion Central de Ferrocarriles, left on Mision, right on Cienfuegos, Straight up and across Maximo Gomez left on Reina/Simon
Bolivar, right on Amistad, right on Dragones
to stop in front of the Partigas Factoria,
right on Malecon also Avenida Washington, Calle 1ra, etc, allllll the way down past San Francisco, past the Cruise Terminal, past El Pulgero, and then right on Monserrate, {cluck
["Other Cuz" wanted Cigars for "Hubby at Home"], back to Paseo de Marti, left past
El Capitolo, up the Prado, and finally a lazy right on Neptuno and into Señor Eduardo’s very own corner parking
spot.
Yes… it was a Verrryyy long ride {just ask Chucky’s
Butt!} yet well worth it, loads of fun, and lots of pics [aside from those here] for the slide show which we believe should be in approximate
order of travel.
Next up... Prima cooks Langostino's at Casa Maria La China and La Familia en Cubana shows up for a mega Farewell on the Malecon, complete with Mariachi's....
Oooooooo can't wait!
HASTA LUEGO,
Uncle Chuck & The Horse
whispering
Cuban Lady
Drinkin’ Cold Bucanero and munchin’ Tostones on the Malecon
